JBMA Robotics Team Advances to State Qualifier

The robotics team at Joseph Bruno Montessori Academy received second place overall at the Central Alabama for Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology LEGO League Qualifier on Saturday, December 1st, 2012.  Montessori students compteted against nine other teams from across Central Alabama.  According to some students, this year's competition stood out in comparison to those in the past.  JBMA seventh-grader and team member Soha Rasool said this year's tournament was "a lot bigger and a lot more exciting and challenging." Students competed under the "Senior Solutions" theme, where they were tasked with designing robots that would help serve elderly individuals. In conjunction, participants were also asked to compete in fast-paced LEGO robots challenges, where they competed with a partner in various two-and-a-half minute sessions.  With their second place finish, JBMA team members ensured their qualification in future rounds, including Huntsville's state championship, January 12th, 2013. If the JBMA team succeeds in that round, students will have the opportunity to advance to the FIRST World Championship in St. Louis next April.
